Govt price pressure blamed for keeping diabetes drugs away

The government’s hardball negotiating on PBS pricing is depriving Australia of state-of-the-art drugs, according to a leading diabetes specialist.

Commenting on the current metformin XR shortage which is affecting much of the country, Associate Professor Neale Cohen (pictured), an endocrinologist at Melbourne’s Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute, says the government’s approach is “completely unrealistic”.
