GP training the best suicide reduction strategy: study

TRAINING GPs to detect depression and address suicide risk is likely to have a bigger benefit than other suicide-prevention strategies, an Australian study says.

Researchers from the Black Dog Institute looked at existing research to estimate the likely effectiveness of nine prevention measures that form part of a proposed "systems approach" to reducing suicide.

They looked at existing efficacy estimates for each measure and then calculated the extent to which the strategies can reach the communities where they will have an impact.
