Green space predicts diabetes rate: study
The effect is independent of neighbourhood wealth.
The research, conducted by the University of Western Sydney, showed that in the 45 and Up Study of 250,000 people, the rate of diabetes was 9.1% among those living in areas with zero to 20% green space.
In contrast, the rate of diabetes was 8% in those living in areas with over 40% green space.
The odds of diabetes was between 10% and 13% in areas of 41% to 60% green space, after adjusting for demographic, cultural, health status, diet and lifestyle and
