Greens cause more food poisoning than poultry
LEAFY vegetables cause more food-borne illness than any other single food item in the United States, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study has found.
The CDC researchers found vegetables such as spinach and lettuce caused 22% of food-borne illnesses and were the second most frequent cause of hospitalisation.
Poultry accounted for most deaths (19%), followed by dairy (10%), vine-stalk vegetables (7%), fruits and nuts (6%), and leafy vegetables (6%).
