Group care benefits children of mums with depression

Among 1760 Canadian children followed from five months to five years of age, those exposed to mothers with depression were at higher than average risk for internalising symptoms, the authors said.

However attending daycare or group home-based care reduced the risk of both emotional problems and social withdrawal symptoms by up to 29% compared to maternal care only. No effect was seen for care provided by a relative or babysitter.
