‘Healthy’ but obese is a transient state

Researchers from the University of Adelaide and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital looked at metabolic parameters, diabetes and cardiovascular disease in 4000 adults over 10 years of follow-up. 

They found a third of the obese participants, who had less than two features of the metabolic syndrome, including high blood pressure or cholesterol levels, progressed to a higher metabolic risk over time, compared with 15% of the normal weight, metabolically healthy participants.
