Cardiology Update presents some of the stories that caught our eye this week.
- Use of statins only postpones death by a few days, the first meta-analysis on the subject reveals. Examination of eleven studies of statins vs placebo by Danish researchers found median postponements of death by just 3.2 days in primary prevention trials and 4.1 days in trials for secondary prevention. The comparison was only made over the durations of the studies which varied from 2 to 6.1 years.
