Hepatitis: clinicians must be more welcoming
Patients with a hepatitis B or C infection must be made to feel welcome at liver clinics to ensure they follow through with treatment, says the CEO of Hepatitis Australia.
In an interview with Gastroenterology Update Helen Tyrrell said improving Australia’s poor treatment rates, particularly in hepatitis C, was “not just about the virus” but there was a social dimension as well.
“The way services can be welcoming of people is a really important part of addressing these epidemics. If people don’t have a good experience then we lose them to treatment,” she commented.
