High mortality risks in chronic pancreatitis confirmed

A history of chronic pancreatitis shaves eight years off a person’s life expectancy compared with the general population, Danish research finds.

The large retrospective study, which compared data 12,000 cases of chronic pancreatitis (CP) to matched controls, found a fivefold increased risk of death among CP patients in the follow-up period.

Average age at death was considerably lower in the CP group compared with controls (64 vs 72), according to study results.
