High pill burden link to med tampering

Almost 11% of the 369 participants surveyed in Brisbane pharmacies tampered with their medication, and the rate was highest in those who took four or more doses of medication per day.

While modification such as crushing tablets or opening capsules can potentially make the medication ineffective or harmful, the researchers found that participants were reluctant to tell health professionals about either their swallowing problems or their plans to tamper with
the drug.
