Higher cancer risk in infertile men with azoospermia

Among more than 2200 infertile men recruited from a US andrology clinic and followed for about seven years, 29 developed cancer compared to an expected 16.7 cases.

Analysis showed men with azoospermia had a threefold increased risk, whereas the risk for men with other fertility problems was moderate (1.4 times the population risk).

Genetic defects resulting in azoospermia might broadly increase vulnerability to cancers generally not just those related to reproduction, the authors
