Hospital rehab a needless expense after knee replacement
Expensive inpatient rehabilitation after total knee replacement is no better than guided rehabilitation at home for increasing mobility, an Australian clinical trial has shown.
What they did
The Sydney study compared 81 patients receiving 10 days of hospital rehab, followed by a home rehab program, with 84 patients who did the home part of the program only.
What they found
There was no between-group difference for the six-minute walk test at 10, 26 or 52 weeks, nor on a range of other outcome measures including the Oxford Knee Score and the EuroQol Group
