Hip-hop, which emerged from the mean streets of New York’s South Bronx in the 1970s, is being touted as a useful tool in psychotherapy and anti-stigma mental health campaigns. 

The pioneers of a project called Hip Hop Psych, Akeem Sule and Becky Inkster from the University of Cambridge’s department of psychiatry, have successfully introduced the concept in outreach to prisons, schools and nightclubs.
