The latest ABS results from the 2011–12 National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey show that most Australians do not meet the minimum serves for the five major food groups, as recommended by the 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines.1,2

ABS director of health Louise Gates said: "Less than 4% of the population consumed enough vegetables and legumes or beans each day. One in 10 was meeting the guidelines for dairy products, while one in seven consumed the minimum number of serves of lean meats and alternatives per day."
 

On average, one in ten (10%) Australians aged two years and older met the recommended number of serves of dairy and alternatives, but for women, this was only one in 14
