People aged over 60 with diabetes or prediabetes experience accelerated cognitive decline, likely caused by microvascular lesions, a study shows.

The Swedish study of more than 2700 people, without dementia at baseline and a mean age of 72 years, showed that those with prediabetes and diabetes had a greater decline in cognitive function scores over follow-up than those without the conditions.
