IBS in kids linked to coeliac disease

Children with IBS are four times more likely to be diagnosed with coeliac disease than the general paediatric population, say Italian researchers.

Their study looked at 800 children with functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs), around a third of whom were classed as having IBS, a further third functional dyspepsia and another third functional abdominal pain.

Of the 15 children who tested positive for coeliac disease, 12 had been classed as having IBS, the authors found.
