Imaging may pinpoint bipolar disorder
A US study in 18 healthy women, 18 with BD and 18 with UD used arterial spin labelling, a technique to magnetically label blood flow in the anterior cingulate cortex.
The technique was able to classify UD versus BD with 81% accuracy but had much lower accuracy when comparing UD with healthy controls.
“The results highlighted the emerging role of pattern recognition techniques to help accurately classify individuals into diagnosis groups based upon biological measures,” the authors wrote.
