Impact sports reduce lifespan of hip implants

While a growing number of patients want to return to sports the wear and tear on artificial joints has not been well researched.

In a study of 210 patients after hip replacement surgery, the French authors said those engaging in football, skiing, tennis or martial arts were more likely to need revision surgery due to mechanical failure of the joint in the ensuing 10–15 years.
