Inadequate first aid for kids with burns

Toothpaste and yoghurt were among the products used for inappropriate first aid in more than 4300 patients who attended the burns unit at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead over five years.

The findings have prompted a call for the public to be reminded that 20 minutes of running cold water on a burn in the three hours following injury is the proven most effective way to reduce progression of burn depth and time to re-epithelisation.
