Increased AF risk with NSAID use in elderly patients
The finding comes from the population-based Rotterdam Study of more than 8400 people without AF at baseline (mean age 68) who were followed up over 13 years.
Current use of NSAIDS was associated with a 76% increased risk of AF compared to never-use.
Recent use conferred an 84% increased risk, the researchers said.
The mechanism could be suppression of cyclooxygenase leading to fluid retention and increased blood pressure, or the inflammatory
