Inflammatory arthritis linked to cancer immunotherapy

US clinicians are calling for rheumatologists and oncologists to work more closely together after 13 cases of rheumatic disease were reported in patients undergoing immunotherapy for cancer.

The patients, identified retrospectively, all received nivolumab or ipilimumab either separately or in combination for cancer, and then went on to develop inflammatory arthritis or sicca syndrome, the authors from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore report.
