Intensive GP care cuts cardiac risk factors

The participants were 40–80 years old and were recruited during routine appointments. Patients with a prior history of cardiovascular disease were excluded.

The participants were randomised to routine care or an intensive intervention. Everyone was advised about their individual cardiovascular risk factors at each review visit and offered treatment if required.

Patients in the intervention group were reviewed every three months. The control group only had their risk factors reviewed at an initial visit and again after a year.
