Intervention with HIV drug therapy saves money: study

A computer simulation of HIV progression, conducted in conjunction with the international HIV Prevention Trials Network, found delivering ART to HIV-infected individuals who have uninfected partners would prevent transmission of the disease in both South Africa and India, saving money in the long term.

Investment in drug therapy would provide a cost benefit to South Africa during the first five years as well as boosting individual patient survival, according to mathematical modelling.
