Intussusception in the days following vaccination low

One study showed increased risk after the first dose of Rotateq (Merck) and the other showed an increased risk after Rotarix (GSK) but not Rotateq.

In an accompanying editorial, US experts said the message was that intussusception could occur as a result of either vaccine but the risk was low at about 1–5 cases per 100,000 infants.

The vaccines were preventing thousands of hospitalisations for diarrhoea in infants, they said.
