Is it okay to delay the script for dysuria?

To see if women would be willing to delay antibiotic treatment, the Department of General Practice at the University of Amsterdam carried out a prospective study.

Twenty general practices recruited 176 women with painful or frequent micturition. The GPs asked 137 women if they would postpone antibiotic treatment and 51 agreed. Urine from all the women was sent for culture. A UTI was confirmed in 103 patients, including 26 of the women who had been willing to defer treatment.
