The study also showed ICSI procedures were linked to a greater than fourfold increased chance of severe autism in cases of multiple births.

Prince Henry Institute senior research officer Dr Jemma Evans said ICSI now accounted for 67% of assisted reproduction in Australia.
However, the emphasis was on single embryo transfer, “hopefully avoiding the neurological disorders observed in this study”, Dr Evans said.
