JIA patients have different guts

Pioneering research from Finland has shown that children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) have very different gut microbial profiles compared with healthy controls.

The study, the first to show that the microbiome is altered in JIA, found a much greater abundance of Bacteroides in JIA guts, together with a significantly lower proportion of bacteria from the phylum Firmicutes.
