Keeping patients on track with statins

REGULAR reminders about the benefits of statins are the most effective way of improving a person’s chances of sticking with therapy.1 Although the cardiovascular benefits of statins are greater after the first year of treatment,2 only three out of four patients are still taking a statin at 12 months.3

One Australian study found that not being convinced about the benefit, or a lack of efficacy, were more common reasons for stopping a statin than side effects.4
