Ketamine’s antidepressant potential ‘overplayed’

Media reporting on the benefit of ketamine for severe depression has “overplayed” the effect of the treatment, says a BMJ feature article.

Singaporean psychiatrist Dr Roger Ho and registrar Dr Melvyn Zhang say an Oxford University case series of 28 patients with mood disorders who took ketamine was a “seriously flawed” study as there were no controls and it did not use a validated tool to assess suicide risk.
