Knee arthroscopy rarely done for OA: audit

A tertiary public hospital review has found arthroscopies are rarely performed for osteoarthritis without meniscal pathology.

The review follows calls last year to remove Medicare item numbers for arthroscopy in the middle-aged to elderly with osteoarthritis of the knee, as studies have shown little benefit for the procedure.
