Laser therapy touted for diabetic foot ulcers

Low-dose laser therapy heals diabetic foot ulcers faster than dressings and debridement alone, according to Indian researchers.

They randomised 30 patients with type 2 diabetes to laser therapy plus conventional treatment or conventional treatment only.

The interventional arm used doses of laser therapy delivered through handheld diode lasers directed at the ulcer surface. The wounds were then covered by moist dressings.
