Less sleep needed for over-65s

The new sleep code, put together by an expert panel convened by the US National Sleep Foundation, has also been adopted by Australia’s Sleep Health Foundation and is the first sleep guideline to be based on a comprehensive systematic review.

Sleep psychologist and spokesperson for the Sleep Health Foundation, Professor Dorothy Bruck, said while the report, which draws on evidence from more than 300 scientific sleep studies, recommends wider appropriate sleep ranges for all child and teen age groups, one of the more interesting changes is for those aged 65 or older.
