Losing baby weight within a year is optimal: study
Canadian researchers followed 305 women through pregnancy and for a year following delivery. They found the crucial period to shed weight was between three and 12 months after birthing.
Losing or gaining weight in the first three months did not affect key risk factors for diabetes and heart disease.
But in the next nine months, those who gained weight (18%) had higher blood pressure, greater insulin resistance, higher LDL cholesterol, and higher apoB levels.
