Low organ donation rate not linked to public health
A new study compares local organ donation and traffic and stroke fatality rates with those of Spain, Portugal, France, the US, Belgium, Austria and Italy – the countries with the world’s highest rates of deceased organ donation.
All the countries significantly reduced road deaths and stroke fatalities between 1990 and 2009. With the exception of Australia and Austria, all countries also significantly increased organ donation rates during the period.
