Low-carb, low-fat diet helps reduce glucose

Low-carbohydrate, low-fat (LC) diets could be good way to reduce glucose levels in patients with high glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) values, according to an Australian-led 93-patient study.

After 24 weeks on an LC diet, obese or overweight patients with baseline haemoglobin of 7.8% or above decreased their HbA1c by an average of 2.6 percentage points. Those on a more traditional high-carb, low-fat diet achieved a fall of 1.9 percentage points.
