Lower bone density with coeliac disease

Coeliac disease is linked with lower bone mineral density in both children and adults, a large US study shows.

Researchers also found that men over 40 with the condition had a significantly higher mean 10-year FRAX risk of hip fracture and major osteoporotic fracture compared to those without.

However, “surprisingly” the authors did not find the FRAX risks were raised in women with coeliac disease.
