Luekaemia linked to nuclear plants
The analysis took in the location of France’s 19 nuclear plants as well almost 3000 AL cases, and 30,000 population controls.
Children living within 5km of a plant had almost double the risk of AL compared to those at least 20km away – though this was based on 14 cases and further analysis appeared to rule out a link to “gaseous discharges”.
“Overall, the findings call for investigation for potential risk factors related to the vicinity of the nuclear power plant,” the authors said in a call for further research.
