Lung cancer risk rises with particulate air pollution

In a meta-analysis of 17 cohort studies covering almost 313,000 people in nine European countries, Danish researchers found lung cancer was associated with pollution even at concentrations below the European Union’s danger threshold.

The Danish researchers found the risk of lung cancer rose 18% for every increase of 5µg per cubic meter of PM2.5 pollution and 22% for every 10µg rise, and was associated with adenocarcinoma in particular.
