Lyme-like pathogen found in Australian tick

Bacteria from the Borrelia genus, which includes the organism that causes Lyme disease, have been discovered in a Australian paralysis tick.

The tick, Ixodes holocyclus, found on an echidna, contains a species of Borrelia very closely related to the Borrelia species B.duttoni, B.recurrentis , B.parkeri and B.crocidurae, which are known to cause relapsing fever.
