Malnutrition a concern in patients with Parkinson’s

They found 15% of community-dwelling Queensland patients recruited into the cross-sectional study  were “moderately malnourished”, suggesting regular screening by health professionals was warranted.

The authors said although no subjects were severely malnourished, the prevalence of protein under-nutrition in this study was far higher than the 1% or 2% found in previous studies.  

“The symptoms most influencing intake were loss of appetite, constipation, early satiety and problems swallowing,” the researchers said.
