The evidence comes from an analysis of weekly surveillance data from 16,000 people who participated in Flutracking.net, Australia’s online influenza-like illness surveillance system.
The 2012 data showed there was little difference in the amount of time men and women took off normal duties for cough and fever, with women taking three days off and men 2.8 days off.
Among those who visited emergency departments, women took an average of four days off and men took 3.5 days off.
