Managing chronic non-cancer pain

There is insufficient evidence to determine whether long-term opioid therapy is effective for improving pain and function in people with chronic non-cancer pain. A systematic review in 2015 reported no trials evaluating pain outcomes related to opioid use beyond one year.1 While an earlier review in 2010 reported clinically significant 
reductions in pain with long-term use, the evidence was weak due to high dropout rates and there was insufficient evidence for improved function or quality of life.2

There is
