Melbourne team explain VAD in adolescent case study

A team of Melbourne surgeons and cardiologists have published a case study explaining their use of a ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation in a teenage heart transplant recipient while the patient waited for a retransplantation.

The patient had received a heart transplant at 17 months for idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. His post-transplant course was uneventful until the age of 17, when he developed coronary allograft vasculopathy and severe biventricular heart failure.
