Menopause timing not linked to glycaemic control

The timing of menopause in women with type 1 diabetes is not related to glycaemic control, a large analysis finds. 

However, a greater insulin dose among women with type 1 diabetes was associated with a lower risk for early menopause, found the analysis of women taking part in the Diabetes Control and Complications trial (DCCT) and its observational follow-up EDIC study. 

Finishing up in 1993 the DCCT found that intensive glycaemic control prevented or slowed microvascular and nerve complications in patients with type 1 diabetes compared with those who followed conventional treatment
