Mental distress higher in diabetes

AUSTRALIANS with diabetes have higher rates of mental health and wellbeing issues compared to those without the disease, a report says.

Published by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), the report found significantly higher levels of psychological distress in adults with diabetes.

In 2007–08, almost 42% of adults with diabetes reported having medium, high or very high levels of psychological distress, compared with 32% of people without diabetes.
