Meta-analysis questions growing insulin use in type 2 diabetes
INSULIN is being prescribed to millions of patients worldwide despite having no long-term benefit in type 2 diabetes, researchers say after conducting a large meta-analysis.
And, they warn, the push for low HBA1c targets is leading to increasing numbers of patients being put on insulin.
Not only is there no evidence for a benefit, insulin is likely to cause hypoglycaemic events or major hypoglycaemia compared with oral medication, the French researchers say.
