Metabolic markers plus GDM increases future diabetes risk

Researchers from the University of Western Australia developed a checklist of predictors based on a study of 150 women with GDM and 72 overweight women with normal glucose tolerance.

Their tool looked at metabolic factors including BMI, insulin, blood glucose, cholesterol and BP to determine a ‘high-risk’ cluster, and type 2 diabetes was more frequent in women with this cluster compared to those without (38.6% vs 6.2%).
