Metabolic syndrome common in psychosis

Analysis of the 2010 Australian National Psychosis survey showed the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in 1600 people with psychosis was comparable across all psychotic diagnostic groups and higher than the 33% estimated in a systematic review last year.

More than 80% of the patients had abdominal obesity, and half had reduced high-density lipoproteins and elevated triglycerides.
