Metabolic syndrome hits younger women

It’s the years leading up to menopause that pose the greatest risk for heart disease, diabetes and stroke rather than afterwards, according to surprise findings from US endocrinologists.

Previous research has consistently showed that the risk for metabolic syndrome is highest during the postmenopausal period, but the latest evidence from a 10-year study of almost 1500 women, indicates that is not the case.
