Methotrexate helps OA pain and inflammation: study

Methotrexate may help relieve pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, new research suggests.

The randomised study of 144 patients with knee OA and clinical evidence of synovitis found methotrexate was better than placebo at reducing pain, synovitis and improving function.

Patients receiving  25 mg of methotrexate a week for 28 weeks had significant improvements in knee pain (VAS), physical function (WOMAC) and daily living scores (ADL), the rheumatologists from Egypt reported.
